The crown jewel of the WSBG is providing unprecedented rewards for our most successful competitors. While an official Satellite Tournament has incredible stand-alone payoffs, such as a coveted first round bye in the Main Event and critical experience gained, we want to enhance your ability to make your event truly special. To achieve this goal, the WSBG will proudly provide a 50% match in your prize support investment. Simply put, if you invest $500 in WSBG tickets codes to distribute, we will provide award codes worth an additional $250.
Exclusive territory - WSBG satellites will be unique within a specific region
Official WSBG satellites will truly be special events. We will strictly limit their occasion within a given time period, location, and pool of players. The host of one of these tournaments will not be competing against other regional host events within the same year.
Official WSBG confirmation and direct support for all registered competitors
While this event will be hosted and administered by your organization, it will also be a joint venture with the World Series of Board Gaming. Your attendees will have obvious interest in competing in our Las Vegas event, which can be accompanied by a vast array of inquiries. Enrolling satellite attendees in our database allows us to confirm their participation in a sanctioned WSBG event, and alleviates your burden of answering any questions that they might have.

The WSBG allows you to make final decisions on many of the specifics surrounding your event. Ticket pricing, prize investment, and local marketing efforts are all controlled by you according to your needs.

A minimum investment of $300 USD in WSBG ticket codes. The WSBG will match up to 50% of this total in additional ticket codes, to be distributed in a manner of your choosing
As each official WSBG Satellite Tournament will be an extension of the World Series of Board Gaming itself, our organization will dedicate valuable time and resources in support of its success. A fair and flexible investment on your part will help us ensure that you are committed to upholding the professional standards that have become synonymous with the WSBG to cover the min. of three tournament games.
Dedicated marketing of your satellite event
The WSBG will actively promote your event in a manner that it believes will most effectively lead to your success, and expects you to do the same.
Optional, dedicated space at your event for WSBG staff to assist and/or solicit at no cost
Hosts of official satellites should allow entry of WSBG representatives and the ability to promote the WSBG onsite at no cost to the WSBG, if desired. This requirement includes a small table space to set up promotional signage, distribute promotional items and information, and collect contact information from attendees of the host event. All details surrounding WSBG attendance will be confirmed at least 60 days prior to your event.
Sufficient copies of each tournament game you plan to host
Unmarked copies of the games you plan to host are the most basic component of a successful tournament, and their acquisition is the sole responsibility of the host event. The WSBG will assist to the best of their ability if requested, but any expenses incurred will fall to you.
Impartial and experienced tournament officials
A hallmark of WSBG success is its team of professional judges. Any host of an official WSBG satellite should assemble a team of knowledgeable officials who can assure that games are completed in a fair and timely manner. The WSBG will be happy to advise any team you assemble upon request.
Adhesion to official WSBG satellite tournament rules and procedures
Official WSBG Satellite Tournaments will be expected to observe all rules and procedures required at the WSBG Main Event. These procedures will be made available to administrators and competitors prior to the event.
Contact information for all preregistered competitors supplied to the WSBG at least 7 days prior to your event, and for all competitors within 14 days of its completion
Contact information for any pre registered players should be provided to the WSBG 7 days prior to the event. This will enable us to provide details to the competitors about what to expect at the satellite. A complete list of all competitors, which includes any walk-up competitors, should be sent to the WSBG within 14 days of completion of the event. This information should include, at the very least, first and last name and a current email address.
Any byes earned will correspond directly to the satellite tournament in which it was won
If a bye was earned in Terraforming Mars, it will advance that competitor through the first round of Terraforming Mars. A satellite win in Terraforming Mars can not be used to advance through the first round of Splendor, etc.
Any WSBG satellite tournament must be completed 90 days prior to commencement of the next World Series of Board Gaming Main Event
To avoid any miscommunication which could endanger tournament seating, no satellite will occur within 90 days of the next WSBG Main Event in Las Vegas. The final day to host an official WSBG Satellite Tournament in 2025 is June 20.
Customization
An official WSBG satellite event may include any number of games from the WSBG field of sixteen Ring Events
An official WSBG Satellite may include as few as three games, or as many as all sixteen. You know your player base and the games that hit their tables. We leave game selection up to you.
Any ticket codes purchased/earned may be awarded at your discretion
If you decide to purchase a stay-and-play package for your winner, and give them the earned $550 provided by the WSBG in ticket packages for their friends, that is perfectly acceptable to us. If you purchase/earn four One Ring Event tickets for your four finalists, that is also fine with us. Other than the first round bye, prize distribution is completely up to you.
The size and scope of your satellite tournament can be as large or small as your time and space allows
An official WSBG Satellite may have seats for as few as 16 players per tournament, and as many as 256 players per tournament.
A WSBG satellite can be included as part of an existing event or hosted as a stand-alone tournament
An organization may host an official WSBG Satellite Tournament as a stand-alone event, or host it as part of a larger event.
A satellite’s timeline is flexible, and can occur over a period of hours, days, or weeks
Timeline is completely up to you. If a game store sends us a proposal to run a Satellite tournament that takes place once a week throughout the year, the WSBG will appraise it with an open mind.
