Bragging Rights : 2023 WSBG - Ra & Acquire Finalist, Castles of Burgundy Semi-finalist.
Number of Years Competing : 2023, 2024
Favorite Game : The Castles of Burgundy & Ra. Couldn't possibly pick between the two. I have more fun playing Ra though, as anyone who played with me in the very late hours every night last year can attest to!
Game that got me Hooked : Surprisingly, Ticket to Ride. As soon as I saw there was a large competitive scene for board gaming, even though I don't really like Ticket to Ride, I was enthralled at the opportunity to take this hobby to an elevated level. It was the first video I discovered from WSBG, and last year was my first serious tournament. As soon as I watched that video, I was absolutely hooked and knew I needed to attend.
Why I wanted to come to WSBG : To meet incredible people that love the same things I do, and to test my ability against the best in the world. I believe every person should push their limits and at least test where they stand competing -- it will only intensify your experience enjoying your hobby, regardless of outcome.
Biggest Board Game Nemesis : Myself. And especially time, the undefeated nemesis of all people!
Biggest Game tip : Think twice, but never thrice. If your decision is too far away from your gut instict, you're more than likely wrong. If your decision hasn't been refined and assessed, you're also wrong! Don't be afraid to make good use of your time. And don't put too much weight into wins and losses, the optimal way to become better is to lose.
For those on the fence I would say : This is the best thing I do for myself every year, hands down. My first year attending set me up for an entire year of enjoyment preparing for this upcoming 2024 event. I knew even within minutes of being at the Horseshoe, that I had found an awesome group of people that I was thrilled to be part of. Every year is a great opportunity to build connections and enhance your experience even further -- take it, don't worry about the money, the costs, etc. It will be one of the best experiences you have all year.
